URGENT APPEAL
Alhamdulillah, by the grace of Allah, we are delighted to announce the acquisition of the first Masjid in Linthorpe and Acklam, Middlesbrough, Masjid Maryam. Our vision extends beyond a place of worship, aiming to create a hub that caters to the diverse needs of our community.
The building was built in 1915 as St Mary’s Church. Over 100 years later, Allah’s plan unfolded, and by His mercy, it now stands upon tawheed in the heart of Middlesbrough.
We intend for the masjid to positively impact the entire community, both Muslim and non-Muslim. To achieve this, we must first recognise our commonalities.
With this understanding, we wish to honour the name that us as Muslims have more of a right to than anyone else and in addition, Allah found it befitting to choose a chapter in the Quran with the same name. Therefore, we have decided to rename St Mary’s Church to Masjid Maryam, amongst the greatest women to have ever lived.
Ibn Abbas reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “The best of women among the people of Paradise are Khadija bint Khuwaylid, Fatimah bint Muhammad, Maryam bint ‘Imran, and ‘Asiyah bint Muzahim, the wife of Pharaoh.” [Musnad Aḥmad 2896]
By Allah’s will, this Masjid will stand for hundreds of years, continuing to foster open dialogue with our neighbours.
The planned renovations encompass the establishment of state-of-the-art facilities, including a contemporary prayer hall, a dedicated women’s prayer hall, ablution areas for both men and women, a multi-functional hall, a youth zone, classrooms, a kitchen, a funeral facility and much more in sha Allah!
We URGENTLY need a further £100,000 to complete the renovation. All we need are just 1000 SPECIAL PEOPLE to donate just £100 each.
